Hello and welcome to Detour by Design
Some people travel to escape, we travel to grow.
What's Our STORY
We are Brooke and Vinny. A kiwi couple long inflicted by the travel bug. In fact, it was each of our individual passion for travel that brought us together. In a cute boy meets girl fashion eight years ago.
While we take every opportunity we can to travel, while balancing our careers, finances and other demands, time is never enough.
This is why we have decided press pause and to take detour from our lives, to live only the adventure. As our friends are moving deeper in to adulthood (with mortgages, babies and promotions) we have decided to give it all away and to move into a Toyota 4Runner + Rooftop Tent (named "Darryl").
After all, “it is not the years in your life but the life in your years” that matter.
What’s our Detour?
We are driving the Americas from Canada to the bottom of South America over the course of two years. We are roughly following the Panamerican south, though we like detours far too much to follow it directly. Like us, we'd recommend taking this journey slowly if you can, as some of these detours have lead us to some of the most beautiful scenes we have ever seen.
Who are we?
Brooke is a management consultant focusing on strategy and digital innovation – meaning she loves problem solving. She has grown up in New Zealand, and has briefly lived in both Australia and Canada. In her free time she dabbles in Design, Illustration, Photography, Web Development and Writing. She also loves yoga, the beach, the mountains and animals.
Vinny is an infrastructure financial adviser – meaning he loves big buildings. He is an international man of mystery, with close family in Canada, America, England, Latvia, Asia and New Zealand. He himself has lived in New Zealand, Canada and Ireland. He loves the outdoors: hiking, skiing (particularly backcountry), and adventuring.
